Hollywood also uses camouflaged US propaganda in plots and when these movies are displayed in other countries they are tricked to believe in the good of the US government. Mahdi writes "We can infer that the younger generations or birth cohorts that did not experience the Second World War are having their perceptions shaped by modern mass media, specifically movies and the entertainment industry.". This sentence reveals Mahdi's purpose as informing younger viewers to not be fooled by the scenes portrayed in movies and to not just assume movies are factual. His article appears on the website for Global Research and is a factual resource with many examples as to how Hollywood has impacted the world. "The American Cinema: A Cultural Imperialism?" The quote "Robert Redford said, “Whereas money is a means to an end for a filmmaker, to the corporate Hollywood mind, money is the end.” reveals the authors purpose of persuasion in turning the reader against Hollywood through showing its drive for money and not for the good of filmmaking. The quote, "The idea is that Americans have grown used to being emulated, to the point that there is sense of cultural superiority rather than respect and intrigue for others. This leads to a general misunderstanding of others and stereotypes that place a whole people into one square. ", is a prime example of the authors informative purpose through his use of description and detached tone. The author sounds as if he/she is simply reading a fact and not showing bias towards or against America. This article is relevant to my topic because it discusses the concerns and benefits of Hollywood's expansion into other countries. Annotations ExtendedAbdullah Mohammad Sindi. This cartoon provides an example of how the US portrays its government and policies in movies and how ignorant people are to believe it. The first couple of images show different movies each discussing a different US president positively with movie titles like "Braveheart" and "Gettysburg Glory". In the final image, the person exclaims "and they say we don't learn history!". This is relevant because it shows how Hollywood movies are changing our histories and people are not bothering to learn the truth.
